NOVEMBER 16, 1999

Both leaders gave very meaningful messages at the meeting ceremony. They were applauded for minutes, then they went into the Çankaya Chalet together to join the reception. At the same ceremony Turkish President put a Glory Medal on Clinton's chest. Clinton has been the 6th president who got this medal from our President Demirel. |

SALUTE TO THE SOLDIERS: During the ceremony which took place at Çankaya, National Anthems of both countries were recited while the 21 cannons were being shot. Later they inspected honor-warrior-team. Demirel held Clinton's right arm to make him salute the Turkish Flag and Clinton greeted the honor-warrior-team in Turkish as "Merhaba Asker" |

As you see in the picture both first ladies were very close to each other. They were always hand in hand during all the ceremonies. Hillary Clinton was a very modest first lady and this took everybody's attention. |

WITH MY RESPECT: Their next stop in Ankara was the Mausoleum of our Great Leader Atatürk. Clintons put a wreath made of white and red flowers symbolizing the colors of Turkish flag. Then President Clinton wrote a very meaningful message in the Mausoleum Private guest book. (In order to read the original message please click onto the text) |
